We’ll
be exploring the sights and sounds of the natural environment,
features of the communities that dot the county, and the activities
that make up our daily lives.
In
this edition, we’re looking at the wildflowers
that bloom along the roadsides, and exploring the area
around Williamsport, our county seat. In each issue we’ll
be offering some ideas of things to do in Warren County. Our first
project is a series of “Wanders” through
the countryside. Whether you’re interested in history, the
environment, bicycling or beautiful views, we’ll be your guide.
You’ll
find detailed descriptions of what you can expect to see and in the
near future downloadable maps to show you the way. Our first “Wander” is
a scenic drive through the farm fields and hollows in the Wabash
Valley, with a side-trip to view the old “New” Bridge,
which is now open again, with some height and weight restrictions.
I’m
a Warren County native and grew up in the rolling countryside
near the Wabash River. I spent many of my summer days in the woods
along Rock Creek, and snow days stranded on at home on Rural Route
2. Driving around the familiar roads of this beautiful place is
like a tonic for me. Whenever I’m feeling or overworked
or blue, I just rattle the keys at Buffy, my Golden Retriever mix,
and we’re
in the Jeep and off. I’m
invested in the continuous cycle that makes up the days
and years of life on this land.
We hope to release a new issue
of our online “magazine” each month, so we hope you’ll
visit often to see what we’ve discovered about this peaceful,
friendly place we call home.
